Sollys Energy secures $150,000 investment from World Bank and Ministry of Energy in Malawi

In July 2024, Sollys Energy entered into a partnership with the Ministry of Energy in Malawi to electrify 1,000 rural off-grid households by marketing, delivering and installing Solar Home Systems (SHSs). With financial support from the World Bank, through a $150,000 grant from the Malawi Off-Grid Market Development Fund – Ngwee Ngwee Ngwee Fund (NNNF), Sollys Energy is scaling up its sales and distribution network in order to reach more remote households and businesses across Malawi.

Despite challenges like economic and climate shocks, the unwavering support from the Fund and the Ministry of Energy has empowered us to deliver energy solutions efficiently to those who need them most. Through the Ngwee Ngwee Ngwee Fund, Malawi is now the fastest-growing off-grid energy market in Southern Africa, and we are incredibly proud to be contributing to the Government of Malawi’s ambitious goal of achieving universal electricity access by 2030.

These achievements wouldn’t have been possible without the tireless efforts of our team, sales agent network, service providers, the steadfast support from the Ministry of Energy, and the commitment of our partners Segal Family Foundation,EnDev, and The Anzisha Prize to driving this mission forward.

As we continue to expand our impact, we remain committed to accelerating energy access and “Powering Development” across Malawi.
