Scaling up of rural electrification using Solar Home Systems for households and businesses in off-grid areas in Malawi.

June 2024 – June 2025

In 2024, Sollys Energy entered into a partnership with the Ministry of Energy in Malawi to electrify 1,000 rural off-grid households by marketing, delivering and installing Solar Home Systems (SHSs). With financial support from the World Bank, through a $150,000 grant from the Malawi Off-Grid Market Development Fund (Ngwee Ngwee Ngwee Fund), Sollys Energy is scaling up its sales and distribution network in order to reach more remote households and businesses across Malawi.

Increasing access to solar powered products among households that are not connected to the electrical grid in Malawi.

Sollys Energy in partnership with The Segal Family Foundation has, since 2022, enabled access to solar-powered electricity and electric appliances for Low-Income Rural and Semi-urban households and businesses. Our partnership has so far enabled the delivery of over 500 solar products to an estimated 3,000 rural users, enabling a majority of the households to have access to electricity for the very first time.

The Future Female Energy Leaders Program – FFELP Malawi

January 2024 – Present

Recognizing that women are disproportionately affected by the lack of skills training, mentorship on career opportunities and access to resources to launch their own businesses in the renewable energy sector, The FFELP aims to significantly upskill young women (Ages 18-35) across Malawi to (1) Be equipped and ready for the renewable energy jobs market (2) Establish their own businesses distributing solar products and (3) Directly be employed by Sollys Energy in operations and distribution.

The FFELP will directly support Malawi’s Green Energy Transition by providing green jobs and skills that will enable additional investments in Renewable Energy from all sectors by ensuring that we have a wide variety of well-trained full-time and part-time staff that have a comprehensive understanding of the energy sector and are empowered to take on an active role.
